I think we all know most successful people you meet or read about has at one time or another failed. Some of the richest and most successful people in the modern world have experienced bankruptcy or there or thereabouts.

It is probably not realistic to expect to follow someone who has succeeded step by step and experience success. Unfortunately we cant always know beforehand if something will succeed, fear of failure stops a huge number of people actually doing anything with there idea, perhaps because they want it to be perfect, who knows. Your first success is the most difficult, your first sale the most exciting – just chase you goal because you deserve it.

I suppose for politeness and so as not to cause offence I should give my definition of a “Silver Surfer”.

I consider anybody over the age of 50 to be what I would call a “Silver Surfer”. None of the people falling into this definition will have had computer training at school or college and will probably only have experienced computers in their later life. In all possibility when PC’s first came on the scene they will have been greeted by this band of brothers and sisters with the comment, “never on your life will you catch me using such a thing!!” or some such similar comment. My experience shows however that without being patronising, they actually require minimum internet marketing advice.

However, how times change. Statistics show that Silver Surfers or Senior Citizens are now spending a lot of time on line, using computers for shopping, researching holidays, buying and selling on eBay, communicating with their friends and family, playing games, catching up on television programs, downloading music and books, and even “God forbid” doing their banking on line. Yes, how things change so dramatically in such a short period of time.

There is a lot more they could be doing, especially those who have retired or are only doing a part time job. After all these generations have pooled a huge amount of knowledge in their lifetimes which can be of tremendous benefit to others especially the up and coming “new generations”. How often do we see the new breed repeating the self same mistakes we made? Just think of the savings which could be made if this information is available. The signs are that the up and coming “newbies” are prepared to listen to open minded outside advice, whereas they are less inclined to listen to internal advice (presumably office politics etc).

I think most “silver surfers” would be pleasantly surprised at the relative ease with which an information business can be set up, as well as the relatively low cost. They must take the proper internet marketing help and do their “due diligence” properly and thoroughly on this advice. This said they should be able to be up and running for £200 or $300 or there about.

When you compare this with the cost of setting up a shop in the high street it really is peanuts and although perhaps they are not going to make millions, there is a good chance they will be able to boost their pension possibly quite considerably.

My view is you find a mentor. Not rocket science. What qualifications do you look for and who do you turn to for this internet marketing help? Well look for someone who has done what you want to do and copy them. You want to be able to contact and work with them on a regular basis which rules out most of the “millionaire gurus” after all they are speaking at conferences, arranging their next promotion gearing up for the next million.
